Balance Is the New Happy

balance-is-the-new-happy-woman-on-the-beach

As we enter into the month of August, a month of all things bitter and sweet. The sweetness of watermelon and warm summer days, to the bitterness of summer-ending-and-school-starting, a time for putting away the beach bag and picking up the backpack and back to our busy schedules. During this transition of schedules it is important to find balance.

“Balance is the key to everything. What we do, think, say, eat, feel, they all require awareness, and through awareness we can grow.”

Koi Fresco

From inspiring quotes to traditional wisdom, we hear the key to anything in life is balance, that includes a balanced diet, balanced hormones, and even PH balanced.

Life balance in general is a delicate and constant balancing act. Factors of chaos and disorder are all around us, and the key lies not in trying to eliminate them but rather in trying to coexist with them in harmony. It takes planning to have a balance life and more importantly it takes awareness, including being true to who we are and the intentions set for of our own wellbeing. We are not our to-do list, not our have-tos or must-dos and we are not our job. Although our thoughts maybe consumed by the needs of others or things we want to accomplish, we are, most important to ourselves and to our own happiness. Bringing awareness to what we need in order to stay balanced and knowing when we are outside of this alignment is easily one of the most important practices we can start and nurture for ourselves.

Our happiness is a mixture of our needs and how we are tending to them on 4 levels of self: physical, mental, emotional and spiritual, each level makes up 25% of our being and wholeness. If one or more of these areas of our life is out of proportion or unsteady, we tend to feel less happy, make poor decisions and/or allow stress to spill over from one area to the other.

It’s not selfish to love ourselves, to take care of ourselves, and to make our happiness a priority; it is in fact a necessity.

Here is what we can do to help balance all four levels:

1. The Spiritual Level

The spiritual level is our soul. Developing the spiritual body allows us to feel a sense of belongingness, a deeper meaning and purpose in life. This is the most ignored level but it is the foundation for the development of all the other levels of self and the compass for being true to oneself. To bring balance to the spiritual level and making our sure compass is on the right course, it is important to maintain connection with our inner guidance. The more we develop are spiritual self, the more we understand our soul’s purpose and ourselves, which makes it easier to align in our decisions and our goals.

How to bring our spiritual self in balance: breathe work, stillness, silence, meditation, prayer, gratitude, mantras, visualization and self-love.

2. The Mental Level

On a surface level, the mental body is our thoughts. On a deeper level, it is our beliefs, desires, values, and goals. Values and beliefs can come from thoughts that are instilled in us as a child. On the surface level our mental thoughts are geared toward goals and desires. The mental level can bring up the emotional level and emotional blocks, anxiety and fears. Our thoughts are more than just thoughts. They are what guide us through life and define us. They mold our view of the world and those around us. In the book Think and grow rich, by Napoleon Hill, he stated “whatever the mind can conceive and believe, it can achieve.” The mind is a powerful tool that can transform your goals into reality, with the right mindset. Managing our mindset helps with self-esteem, reducing fear, self-doubt and anxiety, so we can live the best versions of ourselves. Our mindset is as important as your best idea. Develop a positive one, and we make everything in our lives better immediately.

How to bring the mental self into balance: reading, mental exercise/stimulation, eating better, getting enough sleep, positive affirmations and self-care.

3. The Emotional Level

To better understand how our emotions affect ourselves and balance, let first look at what physiologist call Emotional Intelligence, or EI. Wikipedia defines Emotional intelligence (EI) the ability to perceive, use, understand, manage, and handle emotions. People with high emotional intelligence can recognize their own emotions and those of others, use emotional information to guide thinking and behavior, discern between different feelings and label them appropriately, and adjust emotions to adapt to environments. Many experts now believe that a person’s emotional intelligence (EI) may be more important than their IQ and is certainly a better predictor of success, quality of relationships, and overall happiness. Emotional intelligence is a gateway to a balanced-life. It’s essential to basically every aspect of life. In addition, more and more studies are being release about the powerful link between emotions, our physical health, and our immune system.

It has been scientifically proven that positive emotions like Love and Joy have healing effects on the body, from healing mutated DNA to the way we form scar tissue.

How to bring emotional self into balance: self-awareness, self-regulation, be social, practice forgiveness and kindness, (even to ourselves), celebrate achievements, find joy in everything we do

4. The Physical Level

Our physical body is the reflection and total sum of all aspects of who we are. It is a barometer that indicates how things are going in all the other levels of self, and it also our skin, the musculoskeletal structure and vital tissues and organs that carry us through this life. Exercise and healthy eating are typically what come to mind when most people think about physical health. We all know people who have clean eating habits and are physically fit, but who carry excessive emotional stress, this can wear on their health. While it may not be easily recognizable, chronic stress takes a tremendous toll on the physical self, in the forms of mutated DNA, premature aging and even heart conditions. Stress occurs when our spiritual, mental, emotional, and physical needs are not in balance. Here at Vibrant Skin Bar we have specialized cortisol test to access your levels and one of our skilled medical practitioners can design a protocol to bring you back to homeostasis or balance. Our physical body is the reflection and total sum of all aspects of who we are. It is a barometer that indicates how things are going in all levels of self.

How to bring physical self into balance: walking, stretching, massage, yoga, running, dancing, swimming, hiking, wholefood diet, adequate sleep, self-care

All four levels must work together in harmony for us to feel whole and complete. Ignoring a level is ignoring a piece of who we are. Finding ways to exercise our four levels of self, taking the time to eat right, exercise, relieve stress, rest, and enjoy life can make all the difference in the world not only with our quality of life, but also in the richness of our relationships. It doesn’t mean avoiding your responsibilities and obligations, but rather finding a happy balance and cultivating a more Vibrant life.

From all of us at Vibrant Skin Bar, have a happy and balanced August!

In Health There Is Freedom

in health there is freedom

As we enter into a summer that is dramatically different from last year, our Independence Day will give us an additional meaning, as a breakthrough moment in the nation’s recovery from the pandemic. The White House has declared this summer as “A summer of freedom,” “A summer of joy,” “A summer of reunions and celebrations”. We all have a deeper understanding of the true meaning of Freedom, giving us a reminder not to take these freedoms for granted. We are now given the freedom to connect with our loved ones, to receive a fearless embrace and the precious gift of a mask-less smile. A freedom given through maintaining health and wellness. World Health Organization (WHO) defines health as “a state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or illness” and wellness as “the optimal state of health of individuals and groups,” and wellness is expressed as “a positive approach to living”.

The primary difference between health and wellness is that health is the goal and wellness is the active process of achieving it. You truly cannot have health without first achieving wellness. Wellness has a direct influence on overall health, which is essential for living a robust, happy, and fulfilled life. With our world in the active recovery state from COVID-19 we now view immunity in new ways, with new wellness trends and insights geared toward making ourselves more resilient and healthier to live and prosper.

The Focus on Metabolic Health

Science has shown us in real time that metabolic health and immune strength aren't just linked but critically intertwined. We have seen this in the forefront of scientific research and news headlines across the globe. People who are metabolically unhealthy seem to be more at risk of getting severely ill when infected with viruses. Metabolic health is defined as having ideal levels of blood sugar, triglycerides, high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol, blood pressure, and waist circumference, without using medications. These factors directly relate to a person’s risk for heart disease, diabetes, stroke and high risk of complications of covid-19.
Studies show 88% of Americans are metabolically unhealthy. At Vibrant Skin Bar and Vibrant Vitality Clinic we make it a priority to do our part to aid in a healthier community.. Our team of specialists order and analyze comprehensive lab tests, review in-depth health history and provide a detailed clinical workup to give you individualized care protocols that will not only prevent disease but will aid in your total health and wellness goals.

Mental Fitness

No need to sugarcoat it, 2020 was a challenging year for mental and emotional well-being for many. Mental fitness is a really exciting concept because it means that happiness isn't just something that happens to you but something you can take responsibility for. One silver lining of this pandemic is having the time to turn inward and get in touch with your body and mind. People are beginning to understand that we can work on our emotional fitness the same proactive ways we work on our physical fitness and it's a skill that you must regularly train. There are four main steps to mental fitness and taking these steps enhances your ability to cope with stress and improves your physical health, productivity at work, relationships, and overall happiness.

Emotional Awareness

Being aware of your emotional state and managing strong emotions.

Social

Friends are important because they bring companionship, support and enrichment to our lives. According to the Mayo Clinic, people who have friends are generally physically and emotionally healthier and enjoy a better quality of life.

Financial wellness

It is not about having a certain amount of money at your disposal; it’s about feeling in control of your finances, being able to handle financial setbacks, and being on track to achieve your financial and life goals.

Physical Fitness

Mental and physical fitness and health are intertwined. You can improve both through a healthy diet of fresh whole foods, regular exercise, and enough sleep.

The importance of our skin microbiome

When we only view our skin as an aesthetic entity, we forget the purpose of the organ. The skin is the largest and most visible organ of the body, the skin not only gives clues into what's happening beneath the surface in terms of immune function, nutrition, oxidative stress, and metabolic issues, it is the body's first line of defense against infection, environmental stressors, and loss of nutrients and water. Addressing the skin’s immunity is a gateway to overall health and well-being. The skin’s microbiome is constantly interacting with our environment and works to support our health by protecting against infection, influencing the immune response, protecting against UV radiation, and helps provide nourishment to the skin cells. A recent study showed that in repairing the skin barrier function through moisture-retaining topicals, they found a significant drop in inflammatory cytokines in the blood. This highlights the importance of proper barrier function for not only in optimal skin health but overall health and immune function. Our estheticians at Vibrant Skin Bar are very skilled in recognizing the signs of a compromise skin barrier and the proper way to restore the skins immunity and barrier function to assist in the healing process. We have also have a variety of advanced skincare products designed to restore compromised skin barriers like, Osmosis MD Rescue, Skin Better MD Trio Rebalancing Moisture Treatment, Alastin Restorative Skin Complex with TriHex Technology™ and IS Clinical Reparative Moisture Emulsion.

"In health there is freedom. Health is the first of all liberties."

Honoring the Men in Our Life with the Gift of Health

Welcome June! The month with the longest daylight hours of the year, the rise of the strawberry moon and the last Full Moon of spring. June is the month we honor our fathers on Father's Day and celebrate “Men’s Health Month”. This year Fathers Day is on June 20th, the same day as summer solstice and the longest day of the year. Father’s Day celebrates the contribution that fathers and father figures make for their children's lives. We all know that it is common for men to avoid the doctor until they become sick, injured or are faced with a serious health problem and the majority of men will postpone seeking care for days to see whether they can heal on their own, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" kind of thinking. Postponed care can prematurely encourage onset of diseases such as heart disease, stroke, diabetes, cancer and depression. Men also face unique issues such as prostate cancer and benign prostate enlargement that require regular follow-up. Routine checkups and screening tests can spot disease early when it is easiest to treat.

A March 2018 report showed that the life expectancy for men in the United States is currently 78.8 years which is significantly lower than the life expectancy range of our peer countries which is between 80.7 and 83.9 years. If you look across the globe to the regions that have the highest life span you will find that the residents all have similar lifestyle habits. The best-selling book, “The Blue Zone”, written by Dan Buettner looks at these countries up-close. Dan traveled to five areas throughout the world as part of a large anthropologic and demographic project and studied people who are most likely to live past their 100th birthday. As he traveled the world he marked these special areas on a map with a blue pen, thus giving the name “Blue Zone” to his book. Lifestyle characteristics such as family coherence, avoidance of smoking, plant-based diets, moderate and daily physical activity, social engagement, and a focus on people of all ages engaging socially and actively are common in the Blue Zone.

The five blue zones where the longest-living people on earth live are:

1. Sardinia, Italy
2. Ikaria, Greece
3. Okinawa, Japan
4. Nicoya, Costa Rica
5. Loma Linda, California (an area where the religious group known as the Seventh-day Adventists live)

Buettner cautions that if you live the average U.S. lifestyle with a diet high in processed food and a schedule packed with responsibilities leaving little time for exercising or relaxing you might not ever  reach your potential maximum life span and could be shortening your life by as much as a decade.

June is a perfect time of the year to show the men in our lives we care by encouraging them to have regular check-ups and inspire them to make lifestyle changes that will not only improve the quality of their life but possibly also add years to it.

At Vibrant Skin Bar we regularly see men for services such as CoolTone, Brotox, volume replacement injectables and anti-aging and acne facial treatments. We also offer a whole body approach with our “clinic within a clinic”, Vibrant Vitality Clinic. At Vibrant Vitality Clinic licensed medical practitioners restore and optimize hormones with blood work, nutraceuticals and prescription medications to maintain a healthy balance and encourage lifelong wellness. When the men in our lives take care of themselves it not only benefits them but also encourages those around them to flourish. Happy Father’s Day to all the men contributing to the children of the world, we wish you health, vitality and happiness.

Let the Sunshine in

May is the final month of spring, full of sunshine, flowers and celebrations, from Cinco de Mayo to Mother’s Day.  It is a time when we start to feel the warmth and energy of the sun’s presence.  The sun is very important to our existence, as it warms our seas, stirs our atmosphere, generates our weather patterns, and gives energy to the growing green plants that provide the food and oxygen for life on Earth.  May is both National Sunshine Month and Skin Cancer Awareness Month, so for this month’s message, we would like to share with you ways you can absorb all the wonderful benefits of the sun without causing sun damage and empower you with the knowledge to detect early signs of skin cancer.

Let the Sunshine In

1. Protection:

“An Ounce of Prevention Is Worth A Pound of Cure.” Ben Franklin

Regular daily use of SPF 15 sunscreen can reduce your risk of developing squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) by about 40 percent, and lower your melanoma risk by 50 percent. Here are some guidelines to help you choose the perfect sunscreen for your protection.

PHYSICAL sunscreens are sometimes called sun blocks. They use mineral-based ingredients, like titanium dioxide and zinc oxide, that work by staying on top of the skin to deflect and scatter damaging UV rays away from the skin. Zinc oxide is believed to reduce the appearance of blemishes and ease skin irritation and inflammation, reducing the number and severity of acne breakouts.  According to the American Academy of Dermatology, it should also be part of your treatment plan for dark spots or melasma. When used daily, broad-spectrum sunscreen with zinc oxide that's SPF 30 or higher can help prevent further DNA damage and darkening of the skin.

Vibrant Skin Recommendations:

Suntegrity Face and Body SPF 30

Sunbetter™ Advanced Mineral SPF 68-70

EltaMD UV Pure Broad-Spectrum SPF 47

We also recommend applying an antioxidant serum like Osmosis MD Replenish, IS Clinical Super serum or Skin Better Alto skin defense to your face first before sunscreen to boost your sunscreen’s effectiveness and help fight against free radical damage caused by the sun.

To find out more bout how to take care of your skin during summer, make sure to read our article about eight summer skincare tips to protect your skin from heat and humidity.

2. Awareness:

Skin cancer develops when skin cells are damaged, mutated and grow abnormally, the sun's ultraviolet (UV) radiation is the main cause of skin cancer. Each time your skin is damaged by UV rays it causes changes take place in the structure and function of the skin cells. If UV damage keeps accumulating, skin cells become less able to repair, increasing the risk of skin cancer. Everyone should have a total body skin examination annually by a physician. If you have a history of skin cancer, you should be evaluated at least twice a year by a dermatologist. It's a lifetime of follow-up evaluations with your doctor, not just because of a recurrence, but because of the possibility of other new skin cancers as well.

There are three main types of skin cancer (Carcinoma is another word for cancer): basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma and melanoma.

Be aware of skin and mole changes on a daily basis.

Melanoma

Melanoma can grow quickly. The most aggressive forms can become life threatening in as little as six weeks and if untreated, it can spread to other parts of the body.

Use the ABCDE rule to look for signs of melanoma formation:

Basal cell carcinoma (BCC)

This is the most common but least dangerous form of skin cancer. It grows slowly, usually on the head, neck and upper torso, it may appear as a lump or dry, scaly area. It can be red, pale or pearly in color. As it grows, it may ulcerate or appear like a sore that does not heal properly. The earlier BCC is detected, the easier it is to treat.

Squamous cell carcinoma (SCC)

This type of skin cancer is not as dangerous as melanoma but may spread to other parts of the body if not treated. It can be a thickened, red, scaly spot that may bleed easily, crust or ulcerate.

Any new lesion that bleeds or scabs and does not go away over four weeks should be brought to your physician's attention.

3. Benefits of the Sun:

Countless studies have uncovered the impact the sun has on our overall wellness, proving how truly beneficial even just 5-15 minutes of natural sunlight two to three days a week can affect our mental and physical health.

Improves your sleep

The brain’s pineal gland benefits directly from natural sunlight stimulation. The pineal gland produces melatonin, a hormone that modulates sleep cycles for your body circadian rhythm. Circadian rhythms are physiological and behavioral changes that follow a daily cycle and influence critical bodily functions such as hormone release, temperature, eating habits, digestion, mood, and sleep.

Mood enhancer

Sunshine boosts your body’s level of serotonin, which is a chemical that improves your mood and helps you stay calm and focused.

Lowers Blood Pressure

Researchers have noted a link between exposure to the sun and lower blood pressure levels, with reduced death rates from cardiovascular issues. They suggest that exposure to sunlight triggers the skin to release stores of nitrogen oxides, which cause arteries to dilate, lowering blood pressure.

Maintains strong bones

Our bodies produce vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol). when exposed to sunlight—about 15 minutes in the sun a day is adequate if you’re fair skinned. Vitamin D helps your body maintain calcium to prevent brittle, or thinning bones.

Strengthens your immune system

The natural production of Vitamin D boosts the immune system's antiviral, antibacterial, and anti-inflammatory potential. Vitamin D has been proven to significantly lower the risk of infections, including respiratory tract infections such as the Flu and Covid-19. Vitamin D activates the innate and the adaptive immune system. That means it helps recruit the immune cells at infection sites and plays a part in antibody creation to fight off specific pathogens. It also helps with the formation of immunological memory. This enables the immune system to respond better and quicker to future infections by the same or similar pathogens. Optimal levels of vitamin D may also reduce the risk of and improve certain autoimmune diseases.

Vitamin D deficiency co-exists in patients with COVID-19. At this time, dark skin color, increased age, the presence of pre-existing illnesses and vitamin D deficiency are features of severe COVID disease. Of these, only vitamin D deficiency is modifiable, checking Vitamin D levels is very important to ensure your immune system is supported. Through its interactions with a multitude of cells, vitamin D may have several ways to reduce the risk of acute respiratory tract infections and COVID-19: reducing the survival and replication of viruses, reducing risk of inflammatory cytokine production. https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/33142828/

We hope this message gave you value and hope for a summer full of sunshine and wellness. We would like to wish all the mothers a very Happy Mother’s Day! With gratitude, The Vibe Tribe

Hello April, Bring on the Rain!

“April showers bring May flowers” is a famous proverb that reminders us that even with the most unpleasant of situations, like the heavy rains of April, very enjoyable things like clean air and abundance of flowers are just around the corner. The month of April is Stress Awareness Month, so we would like to take this time to not only bring awareness to the causes of stress, but give you the tools and guidance to decrease stress and help eliminate the physical and mental effects it has on your overall wellbeing.

Stress is the body's reaction to harmful situations, whether the situation is real or just perceived to be real. By understanding the sources of stress ask yourself, is it short term and long term, internal and external, identifying these key components is a critical part of stress management.

Internal stressors include our feelings, thoughts and expectations.

External stressors arise from the environment and events taking place around us, like the pandemic.

Short term or Acute stress: is an immediate problem, like having an argument with a friend or not doing well on a test.

Long Term or Chronic stress: is constant and persists over an extended period of time, can be debilitating and overwhelming.

When you feel threatened, a chemical reaction occurs in your body that allows you to act in a way to prevent injury. This reaction is known as "fight-or-flight,” or the stress response. Through a combination of nerve responses and hormonal signals, this system prompts your adrenal glands, located atop your kidneys, to release a surge of hormones, including adrenaline and cortisol.

-Adrenaline increases your heart rate, elevates your blood pressure and boosts energy supplies.

-Cortisol, the primary stress hormone, increases sugars (glucose) in the bloodstream, enhances your brain's use of glucose and increases the availability of substances that repair tissues.

Overproduction of cortisol alters the immune system responses and suppresses the digestive system, the reproductive system and growth processes, it does so to preserve energy more as a protective mode ready to fight.

Our bodies are designed to handle small doses of stress; this is what motivates us to make changes to evolve.  But our bodies are not designed to handle long-term, Chronic stress that can wreak havoc on Adrenal function. When your adrenal glands are dysfunctional, it causes hormonal imbalances that leave you with symptoms like weight gain, depression, insomnia, fuzzy thinking, intense mood swings, and cravings you can’t control. Chronic stress can lead to inflammation in the body and a compromised intestinal wall, this is the main cause leaky gut syndrome. When the gut is “leaky” and bacteria and toxins enter the bloodstream, it can cause widespread inflammation that can trigger a reaction from the immune system. Our Gut produces 90% of our serotonin. Serotonin is a hormone that stabilizes our mood, feelings of well-being, and happiness. So let’s face it, stress is not fun, but it is something we all must deal with from time to time, the key is not to let it become a chronic state.

Here are the most beneficial ways you can reduce stress in your life.

  1. Exercise: Physical activity helps your body cope with the flight part of the stress mechanism. Exercise gives your body a way to utilize cortisol and release natural “feel-good” endorphins that combat the effects of stress.
  2. Earthing: Commonly referred to as grounding, refers to having contact with your feet to the ground. This allows you to tap into the Earth's natural electric charge. It stabilizes the physiology at the deepest levels and reduces inflammation, pain, and stress, improving blood flow, energy, and sleep, and generates greater wellbeing.
  3. Mindfulness meditation: involves increased awareness of the present moment. With practice, it can be utilized anywhere and can bring lasting stress relief benefits. This simple meditation technique can be learned quickly and is considered by many to be one of the easiest meditations for stress relief.
  4. Best supplements for reducing stress:

Ashwagandha is what’s known as an adaptogen, which means it’s believed to resist disease and regulate the effects of stress on the body.

Rhodiola also known as Golden Root, is used for mood enhancement, energy and to reduce stress.

B-Complex contains an optimal balance of essential B vitamins, with extra vitamin B5 to support healthy adrenal and immune function.

Cannabidiol (CBD) is one of many cannabinoid compounds found in cannabis. It does not appear to alter consciousness or trigger a “high". One study found that those who took 300-600mg of CBD had lower levels of cortisol in their body, which may lead to improved sleep.

The CBD oil can be found in our Vibrant Skin CBD Medical Sheet Mask, to calm inflammation and restore hydration. One of the most popular products we sell for stress relief is Osmosis Wellness Relax and Unwind Elixir it holistically promotes an enhanced state of tranquility and relaxation from the daily stresses of life.

All these tools are very easy to implement into your daily life to reduce stress and promote a healthy vibrant life. If you would like to have your cortisol levels/stress levels tested or if need help finding other ways to lower your stress levels please contact us at Vibrant Skin Bar and schedule a consultation with one of qualified Physician Assistants.

Spring into Happiness

Spring is in the air! While all seasons have their attributes, spring is clearly the most loveable season. The appearance of more sunlight, moderate temperatures, the sounds of birds returning, plants in bloom and the breath of fresh air make this energetic shift so welcoming. Many may find this season to be a motivator for change, as the sunshine and warmer weather tends to reenergize us and inspire action. Whether that action is for physical health, mental health, or for reconnecting with friends and family, springtime will undoubtedly improve overall mood and energies. Spring cleaning has been traced back to ancient times and to this day many of us look forward to the ritual of cleaning out the dust and clutter to free up space for new fresh beginnings. This is also a great time to use the increased energy and inspiration to spring clean and declutter situations, habits, people and thoughts that no longer serve us. One of our deepest-rooted desires is to live a fulfilled and happy life. Many of us may feel that we have lost touch with the things that can make us happy. It sometimes seems nearly impossible to balance a successful career, family life and social life while also keeping your health and well-being stable.

Truthfully, living your best life is within your grasp. You can learn to embrace happiness and achieve inner peace simply by changing and incorporating some healthy habits into your life. Sometimes living up to your fullest potential is just about taking the time for self-care. Self-care is not vanity, it is sanity so prioritize yourself and your health. Studies show to achieve true happiness we need to obtain a balance of four aspects of our lives, emotional, physical, intellectual and spiritual.

Here are 4 tips to create a great roadmap to authentically living your best life.

a happy woman on the bicycle in the spring

Emotional Balance

This begins with self-love, being kind to yourself, being aware of your emotions and your stress levels. This can be done by taking little moments to meditate, journal, and self-reflect. Do not suppress feelings, work through them and don’t be afraid to ask for help from a friend, mentor or professional.

Physical Activity

Spring is the perfect time to start a new fitness habit. Review your schedule and pencil in time to get physical; yoga, a spin class or even a daily walk with a friend. Being physical is not only going to make you look and feel better, but it is a great way to relieve stress and clear your mind.

Intellectual Stimulation

Intellectual wellness includes habits that encourage learning and stimulate curiosity. It is important to explore new ideas, new perspectives and develop new coping skills so that you can live a well-rounded life. Curiosity is also important because it motivates you to try new things and develop a better understanding of how you see the relationship between yourself and others.

Spiritual Practice

Finding balance in the spiritual aspects of our lives allows us to reset who we are and get in touch with our intentions and life purpose. Take 15 minutes each day to sit quietly and shut off the noise of the world. It is in this space that we can listen to our inner guidance and maintain a path of peace, clarity and harmony.

We hope the energy and inspiration from this spring season brings you happiness and warmth.

Sincerely,
The Vibe Tribe

Month of Love

To love oneself is the beginning of a life-long romance.

Oscar Wilde

February is the month of love. It is a month we celebrate Valentine's Day, show affection for others and think about romance. February is also a month we should focus on self-love.

“Why is self-love important?” Self-love is defined as a deliberate act to provide care and compassion for yourself. You cannot give the gift of you if you are empty inside. Self-love fills your body and nourishes your soul, so you may offer the world the best version of you. Self- love includes having a higher regard for your own well-being and is about trusting yourself, asserting boundaries and an overall deeper connection to you, which in turn can connect you with others. Self-love can also include talking kindly to oneself or prioritizing rest when you need it. Love and Self Love are especially important now in the current state of our world and they will guide you to your desires and needs. Self-love is not an easy job and like anything, it grows when you put focus on it.

a woman holding heart-shaped balloons symbolizing the month of love

Here are ways to bring more Love into your life.

• Become mindful of how you are feeling. People who have more self-love are more in tune with their emotions.
• Be careful of the way you speak to yourself. Ask yourself “Was that a loving thought?”
• Take actions based on need. By staying focused on what you need, you turn away from autopilot behavioral patterns that can get you into trouble, keep you stuck in the past, and lessen self-love.
• Practicing good self-care. You will love yourself more when you take better care of your basic needs. Nourish yourself daily through healthy activities like good nutrition, exercise, proper sleep, intimacy, and time in nature. Schedule regular treatments such as a Rose Quartz facial, which are designed to stimulate the skin and the heart, so you leave living at a higher vibration.

Love yourself first and everything else falls into line. You really have to love yourself to get anything done in this world.

A Vibrant Reflection for 2021

Light itself is invisible until it reflects from something and hits our eyes. In the same way, the elements of our life are invisible until we take the time to actually see them through our mind’s eye. Self-reflection is taking the time to see the lessons and blessings, the opportunities and challenges, and the mental and physical development that makes each of us who we are today. The process of reflection gives us a chance to sort through these elements accessing what we are grateful for and what we would like to change in hopes for a more successful 2021. At Vibrant Skin Bar we also sorted through our first year, and asked ourselves how we could serve the needs of our patients and community. As we began to work along side our patients it became very apparent to us that we needed to address the internal causes of aging, acne, weight gain, chronic inflammation and immunity. Thus instituting a wellness clinic within our clinic, called Vibrant Vitality Clinic. Health is a journey that requires support, dedication and knowledge. Our Vibrant Vitality Clinic is about wellness. Our team of specialists order and analyze comprehensive lab tests, review in-depth health history and provide a detailed clinical workup to give you individualized care that prevents and combats disease. Offering an integrative approach to aging and overall wellbeing, by addressing your diet, lifestyle, metabolic detoxification, and hormone balance - we can work together to help prevent, slow and even reverse the negative effects of aging and inflammatory conditions.

Happy New Year!

Leave a Little Sparkle Wherever You Go

As we prepare to flip our calendars to the year 2021, we look back and reflect upon one of the most challenging years of our lives. A year of loss and uncertainty, a year of re-evaluation of purpose and a year full of time to focus within. In a year such as this it may feel selfish or even inappropriate to prioritize feeling good but researchers like Laurie Santos at Yale University say pursuing happiness during dark times may be one of the most important times to seek it.

Happy holidays message

“Happiness gives us the resilience to get through. This is a challenging time because it is both a physical and mental crisis. We need to focus on happiness more now, not less.” Medical studies show that helping others in need can create joy in our lives and give us a purpose larger than ourselves to focus on. People dealing with a serious health crisis such as cancer, spinal cord injuries or debilitating chronic pain who find a higher sense of meaning in their journey experience better emotional well-being. When we switch from focusing on our personal sense of tragedy to encouraging and helping others who may have it worse, we feel deep joy. There are so many ways we can all make a difference helping those in need, especially during this holiday month. No gesture is ever too small. In fact, things that change the world, according to the Chaos Theory, are the tiny things and a 2020 bat is a perfect example of just that. Here are some ideas on how you can make a positive difference in the world and hopefully also find personal joy along the way.

1. Food Bank

Our local food banks are in great demand and developing an even greater need. Donating or volunteering can help feed many families in the community.

2. Non-Profits

There are so many non-profits to help people with housing, clothing, medical bills and even pets. Donations are currently at an all-time low so find one that it close to your heart and donate or volunteer.

3. Donate Blood

Blood donations have seen a big decrease with COVID-19 restrictions. One donation can save many lives, there is no better gift.

4. Holiday Giveaway

Adopt a family for Christmas, take an angel from a giving tree or drop off groceries to an elderly neighbor.

5. Homeless

Food, water, warm clothes, blankets, and funding for housing in our local shelters is seeing a growing demand. A simple acknowledgement as a fellow citizen and neighbor is also one of the most underestimated needs and looking at a person in the eye and smiling can go a long way. “If you see someone without a smile, give them yours.” Dolly Parton

6. Shop Local and Support Small Business

During the pandemic, many small businesses had to close their doors and large companies such as Amazon and Walmart and are hitting record numbers of sales. Spending money locally supports the local economy and your neighbors. Being that Vibrant Skin Bar is also a small business we understand the importance of helping support those in our community. Several of our product lines are made right here in our community. Advanced Minerals Makeup is made in Scottsdale AZ, Skin Better Science is headquartered in Phoenix and Osmosis MD is manufactured in Chandler, AZ. We are also currently working with a lab in Sedona to produce local body products such as scrubs and lotions. By keeping money in our neighborhood, where it can be reinvested again through other local shops and services is a cycle that keeps giving and in turn creates joy.

Happy Holidays from our family to yours. Wishing you a safe and healthy winter season and looking forward to the countdown to 2021.
